The incident, which occurred in Nairobi’s South C area, left the victim in distress as he returned to find his BMW X1 vandalized and his belongings stolen.

The victim, who promptly reported the theft at Akila Police Station in Lang’ata, recounted the harrowing experience of leaving his vehicle parked along Muhoho Road, only to return minutes later to discover a smashed rear window and his bag containing a substantial sum of money missing. Along with the cash, crucial personal documents such as ATM cards from various banks, his national ID card, smart driving license, and job-related papers were also taken.

In response, the Nairobi region Crime Research team swiftly mobilized, initiating a forensic-led investigation to track down the perpetrators.

With the assistance of the Operations Unit, detectives managed to apprehend the first suspect, Charles Nzomo, whose activities were captured by nearby CCTV footage breaking into the victim’s vehicle. Notably, Nzomo utilized a catapult, showcasing his childhood skills, to smash the car window while his cohorts stood watch and coordinated their movements. Meanwhile, Mutinda was identified as the individual tasked with stalking the victim, while Maingi awaited their escape in a getaway vehicle fitted with false registration plates.

Following a relentless pursuit, the suspects were apprehended one by one, with crucial evidence such as the victim’s ATM card and specialized car-breaking tools, including the catapult, recovered from Nzomo’s vehicle. The suspects were then escorted to DCI Lang’ata offices for processing, where they await further legal proceedings.

Efforts are underway to recover additional stolen property, including a second motor vehicle, and to locate and apprehend a sixth accomplice, Rodgers Ndung’u, who is believed to have fled to Mombasa.
