The Trade CS Hon. Moses Kuria has suggested that the price of Macadamia be raid from sh20 to sh250.
In a statement, the CS noted that 40 Macadamia processors are buying Macadamia at 20 Shillings per Kilo and selling at Ksh 800 in International markets.
Kuria, told Macadamia farmers that they however don’t have to get Ksh 800 adding that they are okay with Ksh 250 per Kilo for farmers.
“40 Macadamia processors are buying Macadamia at 20 Shillings per Kilo and selling at Ksh 800 in International markets. We don’t want Ksh 800. We will be ok with Ksh 250 per Kilo for our toiling farmers.” Said Kuria.
Source told K47 that it it’s s imperative to ensure that Macadamia Farmers are not exploited over their Sweat. “Ksh. 250 per Kilo should be the bare minimum.”
“Waziri Moses Kuria’s action in raising prices for macadamia nuts is a welcome move that will improve the economic well-being of our farmers. We appreciate his dedication to supporting our agricultural sector.” Said one farmer.
It is believed that the move by CS will definitely empower and motivate farmers to do even more on their farms.
Other believe that lifting of the ban on the exportation of raw nuts will bring into the country other buyers from all over the world and thus opening the markets for competitiveness and all the farmers to sell to the highest buyers.
