Thousands of Form Four leavers who qualified for university admission but missed government placement now have a fresh opportunity after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) opened a special late application window for degree programmes.

The latest initiative targets candidates who sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations between 2022 and 2025, attained a minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus), but did not secure placement into a university during the regular KUCCPS application process. The move is aimed at ensuring eligible students are not left behind in accessing higher education.

According to the notice issued by KUCCPS, affected candidates are required to log into the KUCCPS Student Portal and submit their applications under the Late Degree Application section.

Who is Eligible?

The late application opportunity is available to:

  • Candidates who sat KCSE in 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2025.
  • Students who scored a C+ (Plus) or higher, which is the minimum university entry requirement.
  • Applicants who were not placed into any degree programme during the previous KUCCPS placement exercise.

The special application window marks the first time KUCCPS has introduced a dedicated late application process for degree-qualified candidates who entirely missed the earlier placement cycle.

Why KUCCPS Reopened the Application

The reopening follows efforts by education authorities to ensure that students who qualified for university admission but failed to apply during the regular placement period are given another opportunity.

  1. Log into the KUCCPS Student Portal.
  2. Enter your KCSE Index Number, KCSE examination year, and password.
  3. Select the Late Degree Application option.
  4. Browse the available degree programmes.
  5. Choose your preferred courses and universities.

Applicants are encouraged to confirm that they meet both the general university entry requirements and the specific subject requirements for their preferred courses.

Important Reminders for Applicants

Students are advised to:

A Second Chance for University Admission

The reopening of the degree application window is welcome news for thousands of qualified KCSE graduates who feared they had lost their opportunity to join university through government-sponsored placement.

Education stakeholders have praised the initiative, noting that it will help reduce the number of eligible students left out of higher education while ensuring available university slots are fully utilized.

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to take advantage of this rare opportunity before the application window closes. Missing this second chance could mean waiting for another placement cycle, making it important for applicants to complete the process as soon as possible.
