Garissa Police Nab Suspected Drug Peddler with Cannabis

Police in Garissa have successfully carried out a drug arrest in Garissa Town, detaining a suspected cannabis peddler in the Ziwani area. The operation, conducted on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, was intelligence-led and forms part of the ongoing narcotics crackdown in Kenya.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect was intercepted by officers from Garissa Police Station during routine patrols. Upon searching him, police recovered 20 rolls of cannabis sativa hidden in a red carrier bag. Additionally, the suspect was found with Ksh 1,800 in various denominations, which police believe to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.

The suspect was immediately placed in custody at Garissa Police Station. Both the seized cannabis and cash were booked as exhibits. Authorities confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized, facing charges of possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs in Kenya.

Police Warn Drug Peddlers in Garissa

In a statement, the NPS reiterated its determination to eliminate drug trafficking in Kenya, particularly in regions vulnerable to drug smuggling and peddling. “The National Police Service remains relentless in the fight against narcotics. We urge members of the public to continue providing information that will help us curb the sale and use of illegal drugs,” read part of the police communication.

This Garissa drug arrest comes at a time when authorities have heightened operations in border towns suspected to be used as transit routes for narcotics.
