A Limpopo man has sparked massive debate across social media after he demonstrated rare honesty by returning a staggering ZAR 2,000,000 (approx. Ksh 14 million) which he discovered inside a waste bin at Olieven Plaza.
The man, who earns a living as a garden technician, stumbled upon the huge cash stash while carrying out his daily duties. Instead of keeping the fortune, he chose to alert the authorities and hand over the entire amount. The money, which is also equivalent to ZMW 2,600,000 (approx. Ksh 14 million), was believed to have been misplaced or possibly linked to a crime, although investigations are still ongoing.
As a gesture of appreciation for his honesty, the man was given a Shoprite voucher worth ZAR 500 (approx. Ksh 3,600). While some South Africans praised his integrity, others criticized the token reward as being shockingly small compared to the millions he returned.
Social media users from Kenya, Zambia, and South Africa have been weighing in on the incident, with many calling for the government or local businesses to recognize and properly reward such extraordinary integrity.
