The former president claims a “legendary” victory—and a bold plan for U.S.-Finland ties
US President Donald Trump took to social media to boast about his latest golf triumph—this time alongside Alexander Stubb, the President of Finland. The pair won the Men’s Member-Guest Tournament at Trump International Golf Club, teaming up with golf icon Gary Player, Senator Lindsey Graham, and ex-Congressman Trey Gowdy.
In his post, Trump praised Stubb as a “very good player” and hinted at a geopolitical agenda: “We look forward to strengthening the partnership between the United States and Finland, including the purchase of badly needed Icebreakers for the U.S.” He added that Stubb declared the U.S. “STRONG, and BACK, AGAIN”—a phrase Trump enthusiastically endorsed.
Critics were quick to mock the claims. “Trump’s foreign policy: golf, hyperbole, and imaginary deals,” tweeted one analyst. Others joked about the President of Finland enduring a round with the 6’3″ USA president (a recurring question: how tall is Donald Trump really? His height remains a favorite internet debate).
While Trump framed the icebreaker talk as a win for “Peace and International Security,” skeptics noted his long-standing obsession with Arctic expansion—including his failed 2019 bid to buy Greenland. “Now he’s eyeing icebreakers? Classic Trump,” said a diplomatic source.
As for Stubb, Finnish media reported he “enjoyed the game” but made no public comment on Trump’s grand promises. One insider quipped: “The free lunch was probably the highlight.”
