The incident has once again raised concerns about reckless driving, road safety in Kenya, and the persistent problem of illegal alcohol trade in the region.

How the Accident Happened

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the man was riding his motorcycle at very high speed when he lost control. “The rider was over-speeding and appeared to be rushing to deliver the brew. Unfortunately, he could not slow down in time and hit the vehicle head-on,” said one witness.

Traffic police officers quickly arrived at the scene to manage traffic flow and retrieve the body of the deceased. The motorcycle was towed away, while the containers of chang’aa were confiscated. Officers at the site emphasized that reckless riding and speeding remain leading causes of fatal accidents on the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.

Broader Issue: Illicit Brew Transport in Kenya

This tragic Kisumu accident is yet another reminder of how the illegal alcohol business not only destroys lives through consumption but also through the risks associated with its transportation.

Call for Caution

Authorities are urging motorists and boda boda riders to observe traffic rules and avoid speeding. They also reiterated their commitment to intensify crackdowns on illicit brew in Kisumu, Kakamega, and other parts of Western Kenya.
